Laura G. Lopez

Laura G. Lopez is an Associate Attorney with Bewley, Lassleben, & Miller, LLP. Ms. Lopez’s current practice is focused primarily on healthcare and general liability matters. Ms. Lopez represents and counsels’ hospitals and physicians in a myriad of healthcare-related issues including governance and compliance matters, and litigation. Ms. Lopez is also a seasoned civil litigator with a distinguished background in defending insurers and their insureds in all areas of litigation including personal injury, premises liability, homeowners' association (HOA) disputes, defamation, and discrimination claims. Ms. Lopez continues to defend general liability claims at all stages of litigation.

Ms. Lopez has extensive courtroom experience, both through her motion practice and at trial. She has managed bench and jury trials as first and second chair. Her trial victories include a unanimous defense verdict (by jury) in favor of her HOA client and individually named board members against state and federal discrimination claims and breach of governing documents claims.

Ms. Lopez has used her industry knowledge and legal experience to secure numerous dismissals of claims against her clients – including major national insurance companies – by way of successful summary judgement or other dispositive motions. Notably, she successfully pioneered the use of Martin v. Bridgeport Community Assn., Inc., (2009) 173 Cal.App.4th 1024 to challenge legal standing in several HOA disputes.

In addition, Ms. Lopez uses mediation to effectively obtain the most favorable outcomes for her clients. She approaches each matter strategically, considering the best options to achieve each client’s unique objectives and to pursue available avenues for dismissal or resolution of claims.

Ms. Lopez is fluent in Spanish and regularly represents Spanish-speaking clients. She is also conversational in French and Italian.

Ms. Lopez enjoys mentorship and remains actively involved with local bar associations. She has moderated and presented dozens of CLEs for attorneys in areas of healthcare law, medical-malpractice, and litigation practice skills — among others. She served on the Board of the Healthcare Law Section for the Orange County Bar Association and serves on the Education Committee for the Orange County Bar Association.
