Whittier Roots
Bewley, Lassleben & Miller, LLP has a long and close relationship with the
City of Whittier, where it has resided for more than 100 years. As related in our Firm History, the law firm relocated from Los Angeles to Whittier in 1900, when founder Madison T. Owens moved his family to Whittier. Since then the history of the Firm
and the City have been closely intertwined.
Our firm served as Whittier’s City Attorney from approximately 1910 to 1968, as Owens & Wingert, then Wingert and Bewley, then Bewley, Knoop & Nixon, and finally, as Bewley, Lassleben & Miller. During the same time period, the firm also provided legal representation with respect to the
founding and legal needs of such Whittier institutions as Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital (founded in 1956) and Quaker City Bank (founded in 1931 and recently acquired by Banco Popular).
Our partners have always
demonstrated our firm’s community connection and responsibility by serving on the boards of multiple local, charitable or educational institutions including Whittier College, the Salvation Army, Whittier Y.M.C.A., Rio Hondo Red Cross and the Whittier Union High School District.
Whether serving as volunteers with local, charitable or education organizations, or meeting the legal
needs of more than five generations of Whittier residents, Bewley, Lassleben & Miller is proud of its connection, past and present, with our home city of Whittier.
